Tips and Resources for parents

What is Quality ABA?

Bethany Patterson BCBA-D, LBA and HPBS Clinical Director explains what quality ABA is and what factors are involved when looking into ABA services for your child and family.

Parent Resources

Here are some resources that may help you throughout your ABA journey. Please take some time to look at these great resources. Please remember these resources are best used in-conjunction with ABA services and under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. *Note: these resources have been created by various professionals and should be used as a supplemental guide rather than a replacement to necessary professional services. HPBS is not held liable or responsible for the use of these materials and they should be used with the help of a medical professional.*

Daddy's Submarine: The Life of Submarine Children by Bethany Patterson BCBA, LBA

Author Bethany Patterson
Illustrator Chelsea Conley

Bethany Patterson BCBA-D, LBA and Clinical Director at HPBS, has been a military spouse to a submariner for several years.  Her submariner was on sea duty when she wrote this book for her at the time, 1-year-old daughter, about the unique lifestyle of the submarine life and how to cope with being a submarine child. Bethany published this book in 2019 with Chelsea Conley, the illustrator.  Be on the lookout for other military related books for children!

Daddy's Submarine is a social story displayed with bright colors and beautiful pictures to help children understand the complex life on submarines and the hardships of submarine deployments. This book helps children understand that it is okay to be sad or miss their parent during long submarine underways or deployments.  While reading this story with your child, try to make connections throughout the story with their own experiences. This book validates the child's emotions and gives ideas on how to cope and regulate their emotions.
