We focus our services on evidence based ABA principles and strategies. Our practice is research based and data driven. At HPBS we take pride in our work and require trained and skilled professionals to implement service delivery. Here is some information to help you better understand Applied Behavior Analysis.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based approach to creating meaningful, socially significant behavior change. Helianthus Positive Behavioral Supports LLC utilizes Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) to conduct functional behavior and skill-based assessments, design behavior support and skill acquisition plans, work to produce meaningful behavior change directly with those who will benefit and train support staff and caregivers on how to implement written strategies and plans. New skills and positive behaviors are taught to reduce any challenging behaviors while increasing skill acquisition. HPBS focuses on creating a program that ensures a safe and fun learning environment. HPBS focuses on manipulating behaviors based on the strategies and methods embedded in ABA to create meaningful behavior change. ABA utilizes principles of reinforcement, which typically involves increasing motivation and providing positive incentives such as rewards to increase skills that are targeted for change throughout the individual’s daily life. HPBS focuses on utilizing Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) to increase motivation to produce positive behavior changes, as well as to maintain a strong and trusting relationship with our clients. ABA not only teaches positive, functional and socially significant skills, but ABA also promotes maintenance and generalization of the skills acquired into the community and natural setting. Maintenance is a strategy used to determine whether or not the individual can still perform a taught or known skill after a given amount of time has passed. Generalization requires that the individual not only learns a particular skill but it ensures that the skill has transferred to a variety of different persons, situations, and environments. These strategies help to produce long lasting results for our clients. ABA also utilizes principles to decrease behaviors that may interfere with learning, relationships and daily life, such as defiance, aggression, sensory-oriented or stereotypic behaviors (hand flapping, spinning, wandering a room, etc.). Individualized and appropriate programming are developed to increase learning for each individual. HPBS’s behavior support and skill acquisition plans utilize positive reinforcement strategies, as well as a variety of other proactive measures to motivate individuals during the behavior change process. If necessary, reactive strategies may be used to assist in the reduction of challenging target behaviors and promote increases in positive behavior changes. Reactive strategies are always used in-conjunction with proactive (positive reinforcement) strategies. Prior written consent will be required prior to Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and other procedural implementations. On-going support, training and consultation services will be available to help service providers and caregivers maintain treatment successes.
Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) provides a process to understand and resolve the challenging behaviors of individuals that are based on evidence based practices and research. PBS offers an approach to develop an understanding of why an individual engages in specific challenging behaviors and promotes strategies to prevent the occurrence of these challenging behaviors while teaching the individual new skills. Positive Behavior Supports offer a well-rounded approach that considers all factors that have an impact on an individual, an individual’s behavior and significant others. PBS uses increasing motivation, proactive strategies, behavioral modeling, as well as other methods to give individual’s the tools needed to increase learning and contact reinforcement while providing a safe and fun learning environment. It can be used to address challenging behaviors of a wide range to include but not limited to aggression, defiance, lack of communication, stereotypic/sensory-oriented behaviors, and social withdrawal behaviors.
