Below you will find information on the Treatment Support Staff's Clinical Roles and Responsibilities. This is not a comprehensive list and may not include all roles or responsibilities.
BCBA-D, BCBA, BCaBA and RBTs are responsible for:
❖ Maintaining consistent participation in implementing the Behavior Support Plan, skill acquisition plan, programming and recommended strategies as written.
❖ Communicating with the BCBA/Treatment Support Team any identified issues with the Behavior Support Plan or program implementation in order to find a solution to provide the best quality care for the client.
❖ Communicating and working with the Treatment Support Team to ensure client successes.
❖ Collecting data to assist the BCBA/Treatment Support Team in monitoring progress.
❖ Communicating with caregivers/guardians and the Treatment Support Team regarding daily session notes, progress and session concerns.
❖ Working with caregivers/guardians and significant others to better manage challenging behaviors while building a positive relationship with the client.
Who they are and what they do:
❖ BCBA-D- A Board Certified Behavior Analyst Doctoral level is a qualified healthcare professional who must possess the same requirements as a BCBA plus hold a Doctoral Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field. A supervising BCBA-D must also complete an 8-hour supervision training course. BCBA's must complete continuing education credits every 2 years. A BCB-D may also have a state license given after meeting state licensure requirements. A BCBA-D conducts assessments, provides behavior analytic interpretations of results and data, teaches and trains others to carry out ethical and effective behavior interventions, designs and supervises behavior analytic interventions and methods, works closely with caregivers/guardians and significant others related to the case, and supervises BCaBAs, RBTs and other Treatment Support Staff. The BCBA-D may be responsible for providing direct service delivery of behavior analytic interventions.
❖ BCBA- A Board Certified Behavior Analyst is a qualified healthcare professional who must hold a Masters Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field. A BCBA must have 1500 hours of supervised field experience, pass a background check and pass the BCBA competency exam required by the BACB. A supervising BCBA must also complete an 8-hour supervision training course. BCBA's must complete continuing education credits every 2 years. A BCBA may also have a state license given after meeting state licensure requirements. A BCBA conducts assessments, provides behavior analytic interpretations of results and data, teaches and trains others to carry out ethical and effective behavior interventions, designs and supervises behavior analytic interventions and methods, works closely with caregivers/guardians and significant others related to the case, and supervises BCaBAs, RBTs and other Treatment Support Staff. The BCBA may be responsible for providing direct service delivery of behavior analytic interventions.
❖ BCaBA- A Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst is an a qualified healthcare professional who assists the BCBA and is supervised by the BCBA. A BCaBA must hold a bachelor's degree or higher, complete 1000 hours of supervised field experience, pass a background check, and pass the BCaBA competency exam required by the BACB. A supervising BCaBA must also complete an 8-hour supervision training course. BCaBA's must complete continuing education credits every 2 years. BCaBA's are responsible for providing direct service delivery of behavior analytic interventions. A BCaBA obtains direction from a BCBA when needed, conducts assessments, may design ethical and effective interventions, teaches other Treatment Support Staff to include RBTs and others sharing the case under the direct supervision of a BCBA. It is mandatory that each BCaBA practice under the supervision of a BCBA and consult the BCBA throughout the case duration.
❖ RBT- An RBT is a paraprofessional who assists and is supervised by the BCaBA and BCBA. An RBT must be 18 years or older, have completed a high-school level education or equivalent, pass a background check, obtain 40 hours of qualified training, and pass the RBT competency exam required by the BACB. An RBT practices under the close and ongoing supervision of a BCBA and/or BCaBA. The RBT is responsible for the direct service delivery of behavior analytic interventions. The RBT is responsible for following the skill-acquisition and Behavior Support Plans developed by the BCBA. The RBT collects data and may assist with certain tasks delegated by the BCBA. It is the BCBA's responsibility to determine which tasks an RBT may perform under their supervision for training, experience and competency purposes.
*All ABA treatment services in NC provided by Helianthus Positive Behavior Supports LLC are provided with the consultation/supervision of a contracted Licensed Psychologist/Psychological Associate in accordance with the NC Ancillary Service Rule set forth by the NC Psychology Board Regulations for Behavior Analysts. Helianthus Positive Behavior Supports LLC has contracted LP/LPAs to assist in providing necessary services for service delivery and for the benefit of the client.*
❖ Provide adequate, trained and necessary staff to work with the Client.
❖ Provide adequate, trained and necessary staff to supervise Treatment Support Staff and assist with the case as professionally fit.
❖ Coordinate with the BCBA to arrange initial staff training.
❖ Provide support to the BCBA regarding recommendation and implementation of behavior support and skill acquisition plans.
❖ To communicate with Treatment Support Staff to include BCBAs, BCaBAs, RBTs and other essential personnel (including contracted agencies/individuals), caregivers/guardians, and third-party entities as needed for the benefit of the client and case success.
